No picture of my bruise today! I figure you guys are as sick of watching it change color as I am. It still hurts. It's still swollen, but not quite as Popeye-ish as it was on Friday. The arnica gel seems to be working. Unfortunately I didn't get to show off my battle scars at work today because one of my co-workers got her tires slashed just down the street from the school and I am no longer the drama du jour. Oh well. ;)

I discovered today that Build-A-Bear has Star Wars stuff! Dude. I think Ryan Bear needs a Jedi outfit! :D

I've been doing a lot of knitting lately. I'm short on funds this year, so I think a lot of holiday gifts are going to be handmade. I'm taking advantage of a short break in my classes to get as much done as I can!

As I've been knitting, I've been watching a lot of DVDs. I've been on a zombie movie kick lately. Gee, I wonder why. ;) Can't wait until Star Trek comes out so I can obsessively watch all the special features.

Speaking of Star Trek, Anton Yelchin did a yummy outdoor photoshoot for a magazine recently. Goodness, the boy is pretty! He's really starting to get his man-face.

My favorites from the shoot are under the cut. )

And here's a video that I can't stop watching! The baby's laugh is infectious and the dog is so gentle and sweet.

Our local HP group, HP-MA, also [info]hp_ma, has been growing in size and activity, and the week before Halloween, "The Group That Shall Not Be Named" from NY apparated over and joined forces with us for a weekend of haunting about Salem's Haunted Happenings - including taking over some carnival rides - and the HP Exhibition at the Museum of Science, with a Halloween Costume Dance Party thrown in as well. It was nonstop wizarding fun, and here are a few of our photos. We're hoping the high resolution version of one of the group shots will be used for an upcoming HP themed calendar, but I can't wait to get together with TGTSNBN again.

Good times I must say.

Along with being a unprofessional photographer i was also "unofficially staff." LOL. I brought my badge from last year. Mike, Jinnie and Paula seemed cool with it as they didn't tell me not to wear it. As a matter of fact Jinnie said to use the map i got last year, because it'd funny to see me wandering around lost. LOL I even attended the Friday staff meeting...

Altogether i had tons of fun.

Friday: Momentum was slow to build having shown up really early. Amanalater really saved my Friday.

Saturday: things got kicked off really quickly with a shoot with Kie and Lily. then Elwin joined us for lunch at Carls. After that i roamed a bit. I don't remember the details of the day. I attended Cosfest. Yu-Gi-Oh!! Evil Concil of Doom FTW!! I was in stitches.... they were actually concerned that people wouldn't get the jokes.

Oh. and. I. Took. a. Picture. with. THE USA Musume. ZOMGAHHHHHHH...

then i headed to the Arcade with hopes of playing the Sega Saturn Macross game... as i walked by the Karaoke Room I heard Tim Singing... and was obligated to investigate. Low and behold both Jet and Tim were in there hanging out. I so I abandoned my plan to play Macross.

I ended up singing three songs:

Fat-bottomed Girls w/ Tim
Don't Stop Believin w/ Jet (the best meow mix), Tim and Andrew*
Come Sail Away (Cartman mix) Solo.

*andrew was my roomie last year at PMX. :3

I also instigated a bit of fun with Nabeshin! O_O;

He was hanging in the back watching us sing "don't stop believin" so on my way out for water i asked him if he was gonna sing a song...

He said he wouldn't have time to wait the hour.
I said "I'm sure they'll push you through"
The interpreter then asked me to find out for sure... LOL.
I verified that they would and then Nabeshin then went to request his song.
I dunno the song, but it was an older sounding Japanese song.
He even did his iconic "NABE-HAME-HAAAAAaaaa"
I'll post the vid on youchoob sometime soon.

Jet did a wonderful job with "Watashi no Kare Wa Pilot." and "Diamond Crevasse*"

*vid to come :3

it was fun to do the attendee stuff rather than being concerned with photography the whole time.

*edit* I got to speak to my favorite Maid from the maid cafe at AX. she was there too. hee.

Sunday:
Mostly centered around the fashion show. I bought a Hangry Keychain for my camera.
Shot some "Model" pics of Susan. I love those shots so much... I'll be posting them on my Photography page on FB soon. Stay tuned.

I'm also considering Staffing at Anime Conji. :3

all around good times.

Serge can agree with me on this. We've been doing research on racing designs for cars, trucks, and motorcycles for years. I've come up with a couple of conclusions for the neophytes that think cars are cars, who cares, right? Not so fast there!

1. Standards: It's very similar to the Computer Operating System world. The racing organization gives you a standardized frame to comply with (NASCAR, NHRA, IRL, etc) and you tune the hell out of it based on those rules and you are good to go. The goal is to create a platform so you can compete. Obviously throughout the years these standards need tweaking or overhauls. That's life.
2. Engines: V8 blocks are mostly American metal stock. The major differences are racing engines have no catalytic converters (clean exhaust filters), no mufflers (sound filters), still use carburetors (pure air/fuel add vs. electronic fuel injection), hand-crafted cylinders to exacting precision for extremely high-temperature runs, and wider air bores all around to keep the engine cooler and allow the driver to control the speeds faster when passing and dodging. The result is an engine that produces upwards of about 700HP to 1000HP depending on type of race. Don't even try to guess how much funny-car drag engines can achieve.
3. Safety: All vehicles have roll-bars and massive cages around the drivers that are designed to protect them against 4000-5000 Lbs. of metal running into them or any collision into a wall and allow them to literally walk away after such an accident. Compare that to a regular car you drive today; you'd be dead.
4. Control: The external frame is boxier and ugly for a reason. The less aerodynamics, the more control a driver has for passing and less chance of flying around the track. Thus you have wider stance, more vertical front windshield, large rear wings, and front drag dam to displace more air. The tires have little or no treads to maximize rubber to road cohesion (remember surface tension?) to assist the driver in being able to control the car in much more precise engagement.
5. Entertainment: What makes racing so entertaining? It's the fact that the vehicles appeal to the carnal fighting nature within us. Much like football and boxing and rugby, you want to see and know that the rawest, purest form of man-made power is put to the extremes.

I just thought I'd share that with you all. OK, that's it for now.

Nope, not dead. In fact, I'm uploading lots more pictures from my Europe trip onto my facebook. I think once I actually sift through them all, I'll be able to put things into place and make a far more accurate report about all the amazing things I did and saw ^_^ The Gallery is public and I'm up to the pictures from Chitiveccia, which means all my pictures from Rome are next and Rome was insane because it was just so overwhelming. I didn't what to and to not take pictures of! So, here's the gallery~

So yeah.  Long story ahead.

So yesterday afternoon I got an oilchange at EZLube.  Usually I try to stay away from these kind of oil change places, but I'm broke and had a coupon.  So yay, oil changed, totally happy.

This morning I was heading to campus to do the Walk for Juvenile Diabetes.  I get a whole 2 miles before I notice that my Oil light is on and smoke's billowing out.  It was foggy so I didn't notice the smoke at first.  I pull off on the first onramp I can and as i get to the end, my car dies.  An older couple stopped to wait with me as I checked the car over.  I had no oil and looking underneath saw it was just dripping out.  So I call AAA for a tow.  In the middle of the phonecall, a cop pulls off and yells at me for being parked on the offramp.  The lady I was with took the phone from me to talk to AAA about where my car was while the cop pushed my car (with HIS car) into (ironically enough) the AAA building's parking lot.

The couple waited with me for the tow truck, which was sweet of them.  They were on vacation so I felt bad, but they said that they had kids my age and would have wanted someone else to help them.

So the tow truck takes me to a PepBoys over on El Cajon Blvd, since it was 8:30am and they would be opening soon.  Siobhan in the meantime texts me a photo of a piece of metal sitting in a giant puddle of oil, taken in our driveway.  I show it to the mechanic and he's like "yeah that's your oil filter."  So Bhan meets me there and we go have breakfast (after calling my parents to fill them in).  The PepBoys manager calls me up and tells me that he's not going to touch my car since it's EZLube's fault, and if they touch it, EZLube could be like "we weren't the last ones to touch the car."

So I call another tow truck then head back to the apartment.  Bhan had already went and bought kitty litter to start soaking up the oil, so we got more since it had already soaked through.  Go back to pick up car again and have it towed back to EZLube.  The dude who worked on my car wasn't there, but the supervisor looked it over, put a new oil filter on (he wouldn't tell me if the dude even had put the RIGHT oil filter on, since the PepBoys guys told me that it wasn't), he put all new oil in, tried to start it up, and car won't go.

So they had me fill out a claims form and told me that they'll be sending the car for corporate to fix, since it's completely their fault.  I tried to get them to pay for a rental car in the meantime, to which they told me that I would just have to pay for it then later send in my receipts to get reimbursed eventually.  Dad was mad, but he and my mom and just bringing me one of their cars (yay for us having an extra car) to use in the meantime.

It's looking like they fried my pistons, so the entire engine's going to have to be replaced.  So boo for a stupid mechanic fucking up my car, but yay that I don't have to pay for it?
